Outliner App Reviews

search bug since iOS5 update !!!

thank you to fix it asap.

if I could export it into e.g. Word or Powepoint ... but its dead end

Hi, this app is only working on the iPhone. The "Standard" OPML is not supported by MS Office. If you, like me, work in an office and like to take your notes for a meeting while commuting, you would need to transfer it quickly into Word or Powerpoint or something similiar. This doesnt work. You can email OPML plain text pasted into the email or a kind of ASCII art which is of no use either. The website, you could sync with, doesnt has an interface to further work on the outline. So forget to use it in Meetings. If you copy the synced outline from the browser to you Office software you will get weird form elements. So there is actually no way to get into MS Office besides formatting it again. This is of course too time consuming and youd rather use pen and paper.

Works well

Basic feature set works well, hope to see more features in near future

Picture Option?

This application would be outstanding with a picture option. While it is fantastic at allowing you to create detailed lists, it lacks a way to record items visually. It would be great to have a way to add an image from either the camera roll or one stored on the phone. For almost any list you create a picture option would help you record work youve completed, things to buy (ie, the Chrismas Shopping list from the example), pics of plants to add to the landscaping project (from your previous example), furniture pieces that you would like to buy ect....the options are endless. PLEASE ADD THIS, and it would truely have a five-star rating!!!

Slick outliner

Very slick, easy to use outliner. No it doesnt have a million features, but do you really need them in an outliner. I waffled between 4 and 5. But with its ease of use and online syncing for backup, I went for the 5. And by the way, I have Nataras Bonsai on my Palm. As a simple outliner, this more than does the trick. It needs due dates to handle project management.

Buy this!

If you need an outliner or hierarchical list-maker, you wont go wrong with this fabulous program. Easily the equal of Listpro, which still hasnt been released for the iPhone. Would benefit from the ability to expand/collapse ALL levels at once, but otherwise simply excellent. BTW, this is how all syncing should be handled.

Amazing App

I love this app, it gets me away from my desk. The functionality with the Outliner Online is unmatched as far as I know. I can create a Mind Map using Mind Manager, export to OPML, import into the Outliner Online, then sync to my iPhone. Then I can make changes, sync with the Outliner Online, then export the revised OPML file, then reopen in MindManager and I now have an up to date mind map. Why would I do this? I find that fro brainstorming Mind Maps are great. For working out the details and finer points, I prefer an outline. One step I forgot to mention... I sometimes use OmniOutlinerPro to open the Outliner Online OPML files. Hope this makes sense. Play with it you will figure it out. Very pleased and some of the best money I have spent in the App store. Thanks to CarbonFin, keep up the great work!

Ok

I was only partially satisfied with this outliner, because you need to navigate so many screens to create a simple outline. I use outlines a lot so kept searching and settled on quickdocs, which also has text formatting, ability to save as text or as a .doc. I will keep this program on my iPod, because its notes concpt will be usefful for certain tasks - but not as my day to day outliner.

Does what I need

So far I am very happy with this product cause it satisfied my needs: a hierarchical outliner that expands and collapses easily. Great for my To Do list, shopping lists, and keeping track of ideas. The free online synching capability is great. Id give it 5 stars if it had colour / highlight abilities.

Outstanding

Between the online outlining which synchs with the program and the advanced in-app functionality I can highly recommend this app. Thank you for it!

This can be better

If it had push nofication. Due dates. Calender. This can be the best software outthere. I really liketheprogress circle . Can it be change to a bar? Ill give 5 starz hope you can make this app better.

No where near Nataras Bonzai

I am sorry, the last review not withstanding, this app is a very skimpy attempt at an outliner. It is very difficult to use, and has very few options, especially compared to the Natara Bonzai app on my palm. The font is way too big, the controls clumsy, and the look bland. However my palm is dying and I was desperate for a replacement. I can appreciate there are some limitations with the iphone specs, but hopefully with time CarbonFin will use my ten bucks wisely and produce a Bonzai-worthy app. Anyone else out there working on an outliner? Any updates available? Curtisthehippo

Almost Perfect!

This would be the ideal app if there was an option to colour code text. Slicktasks for blackberry is an excellent example. Colour allows users to assign another level of hierarchy creating further customization. I hope the developer considers adding this feature. Even a gray scale option would be an added advantage.

Very useful and well thought out

Smart design! The web syncing feature is one-touch simple and very reassuring.

Literally keeping me from loosing my marbles!

With a mind like a rock tumbler this app is letting me put my marbles somewhere safe (and quiet) and lets me play with them later. Simple yet flexible with many features to explore.

Amazing!!

This app is so well done and has replaced a few apps already like my packing list app. Outliner lets you uncheck all completed items so it works extremely well as a packing list. I can use the template over and over again on future trips. But thats not all - it syncs with a web version!! I cant stress how awesome and useful this is. I type a lot faster on the computer than on my itouch. It is so much easier to add items online then sync to the app. Seamlessly perfect and better than a lot of apps. Im also using this in conjunction with toodledo. Toodledo handles subtasks really badly, but together with outliner the combo is perfect. I use toodledo for single tasks and then outliner for project tasks. Worth the money. **** feature request **** I would really like to be able to click on urls within notes. And please add passcode!

Great productivity app

One of my top apps, I use it to organize everything, from checklists to ideas.

Does what it says - really well

I had used BrainForest for years on Palm devices, but this is really the type of product I had been looking for. The syncing is seamless, but could really rock with iCloud integration.

Been looking for something like this for a while

Good, intuitive, simple, efficient interface. Even though there are a ton of outliner apps, this is the one Ive been looking for. Its almost perfect, but I do have a wishlist: -Auto sync on startup / before shutdown -Ability to assign tags to single nodes -Ability to sync same file to both dropbox and outliner online AND/OR -Ability to set dropbox as default destination rather than having to change at each new outline. And most of all -A PC companion application, or a better solution to edit on pc (Recommended third-party software "bonsai" almost does it, if only it had native OPML support rather than that import/export business. Or at least the ability to set a keyboard shortcut to "export as opml" or set it as default format to "save as" to. Perhaps Carbonfin has enough weight to convince Bonsai to do a few tweaks?) Even as a standalone application Im sure a PC equivalent of omnioutliner would do very well. Online Outliner is good but there has to be a good way to work offline.

Best List Maker

Not a day goes by without reviewing my many lists on Outliner. I have book lists, suitcase packing list, boat supplies, household projects just to name a few. And the app is so easy to use.
